If you’re in the mood for a mid-morning grab-and-go breakfast, you can’t get much better than Comet Pieces on Queen Margaret Drive. And you can’t get much better passing traffic than the constant stream of first year students who file past Comet Pieces each day on their walk to Glasgow University from Murano Street student halls. It’s a well-trodden path which has been crying out for exactly this type of establishment for a number of years.

This small neighbourhood cafe does hearty sit-in breakfast, sandwiches and hot food, but trades mainly in takeaway Morton’s rolls piled high with your choice of fillings. Varying from tried and tested classics, like eggs, bacon and sausage, to more unusual options, such as coffee cured brisket, spinach and chia seeds or sundried tomatoes and artichokes.

Weekday deals include a roll with two fillings and a hot drink of your choice for £4 – a tempting portable breakfast for the long trek in to those lectures. It's easy to see why they quickly developed a loyal fan base, a fact which is reflected in our survey results this year.

Every year, The Skinny holds a Food and Drink Survey, where we give you the opportunity to vote for the best restaurants, pubs and cafes in town. Comet Pieces seriously nailed it in our 2019 Food and Drink Survey, earning spots in three categories in Glasgow: Best New Place, Best Cafe/Coffee Shop and Best Breakfast.
