When it comes to live music in Dundee, the city often finds itself in the shadow of its central belt counterparts in Edinburgh and Glasgow. However, while it doesn’t pull in too many big tours, the city does host a wealth of DIY gigs and a vibrant local music scene.
The small but well-formed Beat Generator Live! hosts gigs in Dundee by a host of acts from across the musical spectrum, while the 400-capacity Church venue on Ward Road offers local talent a chance to step up from smaller venues. The larger touring bands which do make it to Dundee can often be found at the Caird Hall, a cavernous Victorian space in the heart of the city.
Elsewhere in Dundee’s live music scene, Book Yer Ane Fest from DIY punk collective Make-That-A-Take brings together bands from across the UK and beyond for an annual charity festival each winter, and MTAT host regular grassroots shows at Conroy's Basement. Underground music club The King's (run by the team behind Reading Rooms) also hosts occasional live gigs from up-and-coming touring bands alongside its slate of club nights and regular guest DJs.
We’ve put together this guide to the best Dundee gigs and live music venues; if you’re organising an event or spot any information which needs listing or updating, let us know by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org with the event and venue details.
