Dundee’s comedy scene may lack volume in comparison with the central belt titans of Edinburgh and Glasgow, but the city makes up for it with some serious quality.
Comedians touring their post-Fringe shows can often be found at the city’s main theatre, the Dundee Rep. The Rep, which has hosted gigs from Stewart Lee, Nina Conti and Mark Thomas in recent months, also plays host to the monthly Just Laugh comedy club. Just Laugh showcases a mixture of local talent and international acts, with regular monthly nights to help comedy fans ticking over between touring shows.
Dundee’s Caird Hall is where the big hitters can be found, with the 2,000+ capacity venue hosting recent shows by the likes of Kevin Bridges and Jimmy Carr. For those looking for grassroots comedy, Braes Basement Bar’s regular Bright Club Dundee nights merge performances from Scotland’s finest comic talent with intelligent folks from the university community. Bright Club also provide free comedy training, if you find yourself bitten by the comedy bug.
