Nippon Kitchen

Nippon is the formal term for Japan, and Nippon Kitchen, situated in a Grade A listed building in the city centre, is fittingly, a classy joint. High ceilings and paper lanterns add a touch of elegance, along with leather chairs and spacious tables. It’s the sister restaurant of the popular Nanakusa on Sauchiehall Street, but with a very different vibe.

The menu is extensive, from the ubiquitous miso soup to gyoza, rice and noodle dishes, bento boxes and – of course – sushi, which gets a menu all to itself, and is prepared in full view of diners. The drinks menu is equally expansive, with a range of sakes and an interesting range of Japanese cocktails which, along with the decor and chilled atmosphere, tempt you to linger a little longer.
