MAYZE opened in July 2018 with a straighforward and admirable goal: good food and good coffee. Having spent the previous few years running the popular wedding coffee bar business Something Brewed, owners Gillian and Craig decided to open a bricks-and-mortar hub for their talents on the Anderston edge of the Finnieston strip.

MAYZE is situated not far from that McDonalds lots of us visit en route to the Hydro, but caters to a very different clientele indeed. Their menu of all vegetarian, mostly vegan, fare was pulled together with the help of head chef Chuck, who designed the veggie and vegan menus at the now-defunct Squid & Whale, with additional consultation from food festival veterans Faceplant Foods.

The veggie menu features a lot of brunchy faves, with the rotating weekly egg specials worth coming back for' previous guests have included huevos rancheros with veggie chorizo and moroccan chickpea eggs with dukkah and ras el hanout. While, coffee is a fastidious mix of Good Coffee Cartel espresso and milk from Mossgiel farm, a hard combo to beat. The space is roomy and fresh, with a multi-coloured geometric coffee bar on one side of the room and the work of local artists on the other.
