Looking for a sporty way to pass the time? Trying to find a new gym? Searching for an outdoor pastime that’s rigorous, new and interesting? It’s odds-on you’ll find it in Liverpool.
Gymnasiums are particularly well catered for: first of all, there’s the Liverpool Lifestyles gyms run by the City Council. Membership is cheap (especially if you’re a student) and they offer plenty of personal training services, classes and equipment. Liverpool Aquatics Centre – a stone’s throw from the student-friendly area of Smithdown Road – has an olympic-sized swimming pool too, so be sure to get your money’s worth from your membership with that. Other affordable gyms can be found in and around the city centre: Pure Gym has 24-hour access, while the JD Gym is just on the edge of the business district - handy if you’re looking to improve health and fitness on your way to or from work.
Awesome Walls is another popular spot: a climbing centre with an impressive array of facilities – if you’re tired of that gym membership but still want to keep fit, this may be for you. Alternatively, take a trip to Croxteth and check out Jungle Parc, an outdoor activity centre with plenty of ropes, zipwires and tree trekking. Fun for all ages.
