This city’s happy to accept the charge of being famous for its native wit and ‘sensa yuma’ (sense of humour, if you’re not yet fluent in Scouse), and the flourishing Liverpool comedy scene should give you some idea of why.
The Albert Dock plays host to Blue Bar: a celeb-frequented booze’n’dining hotspot four days per week, it’s also home to Liverpool Comedy Central every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. One of the busiest comedy nights in the city, it hosts a variety of touring acts from the up-and-coming to the more established.
Back in the city centre, tucked away on the edge of the business district is the Slaughterhouse pub, whose infamous Laughterhouse series sees local and touring stand-ups test their material on the Liverpool comedy crowds, notorious for their fondness for audience participation.
Then there’s the Hot Water Comedy Club, whose well-thought-out events of all shapes and sizes take place across various Merseyside venues, from the Unity Theatre and The Holiday Inn in Liverpool to West Kirby Social Club.
Liverpool still packs ‘em in for the bigger names too, of course, with the Philharmonic Hall and even the Liverpool Echo Arena both finding room in their schedules for touring comedians from across the UK and USA.
There’s much more to explore than this quick sample of comedy nights and venues, of course, so to make things easier, we’ve put together the best guide to Liverpool’s listings for comedy shows of all sizes. If you’re organising an event or spot any information which needs listing or updating, let us know by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org with the event and venue details.
