Nestled on the Hyndland-Partick border, the Rio Cafe offers a stripped-down, unpretentious atmosphere, providing drinks and simple but effective comfort food, including one of the better Scottish Breakfasts to be found in the West End. The faint hint of 50s will most likely put you in the mood for one of their milkshakes or ice cream floats (without aggravating your hangover too badly), both of which are completely delightful. And, while their lasagnes and comfy stodge staples are hugely popular, those of the healthcore persuasion can also enjoy a streamline but sexy eggs florentine on rye bread, or roast pepper houmous on ciabatta.
Along with this, the cafe hosts a slew of wholesome and not-so-wholesome entertainment every week, including jazz trios, pub quizzes, poker, plus various live poetry nights and DJ session, with Holly Calder of Eyes Wide Open fame a current resident. Be prepared to put up a fight for a table on the weekends, though – when the place is invariably crammed with bickering families and screaming children.
