The Southside has a pretty busy coffee scene these days, meaning you really have to be good to survive, but Short Long Black Coffee has well and truly carved out a spot for itself since opening in early 2018.

The pared back wood and dark walls interior fits in with their no-nonsense approach. Admirably determined to use local and ethical produce wherever possible does good things for the environment, sure, but it does even better things for the coffee.

Beans are locally roasted by Thomsons Coffee, who you may have seen stationed in the Arches, and milk is provided by the organic Mossgiel Farm in Ayrshire, whose packaging emblazoned with Rabbie Burns’ face has become a popular choice in serious coffee spots across the city. Claims that this is the best barista milk around are hard to argue with after tasting a flat white from Short Long Black.

The staff are friendly and the creative menu of brunch foods and baked goods really sets the place apart. Shout out to the coconut loaf served with pineapple that we've been thinking about for weeks.
