Queens Park Railway Club

Anyone familiar with Queens Park station in Glasgow’s Southside will know that much of the platform building is off limits to the public, hidden behind rusty cream grating and sturdy blue doors. On one such door, written in the increasingly rare Railway Alphabet, are the words ‘Queens Park Railway Club’. Far from a long-defunct sitting room for gangs of trainspotters, the space is now an artist-run gallery.

Whilst only occasionally open, the gallery has hosted a number of exhibitions since August 2010. The two intimate rooms that make it up have been done out in a set of neutral colours to help diversify the space, yet the rattle of trains, monotone announcements and curious commuters poking their heads in all betray the gallery’s true setting. It’s an interesting experience, and if nothing else, it’s very easy to get to – a train to Queens Park, and you’re literally right there!
