Scran is a small Scandi-chic style coffee shop and brunch place on Alexandra Parade.

On weekends, you can usually find their handful of tables packed with locals enjoying fresh dishes from their short but clever breakfast-inspired menu – mainly eggs and pancakes served in a variety of ways. The eggs are perfectly poached and presented artfully, towered high atop toast, black pudding and spinach; their coffee list is similarly simple but effective. The baristas make a mean flat white, which at £2 – and we don’t say this lightly – might be the best coffee that the Parade has to offer. Cakes and traybakes are worth coming back for too, as are the changing daily specials.

Dogs are also welcome, and it is easy to see why the place is already building up a band of Dennistoun regulars. A painted skyline mural of East End landmarks adorns the front window – a stylish nod to the area on the doorstep which no doubt helped locals take this place to their hearts quickly.

Their sense of place is out in full force again on weekday lunchtimes, with deals on topped fries for school kids – halloumi and chilli topped fries for a couple of quid? It’s almost worth being a kid again.
