At a glance, MalaCarne looks like the latest face to pop up on the Mount Florida coffee scene. And the coffee is great, sure, but it is the food menu that you’ll keep coming back for.

MalaCarne's all-vegetarian menu errs on the “oh yeah, I guess it is” side as far as vegetarian menus go. There are not a lot of meat substitutes to be found here – just a selection of good old fashioned brunchy faves that you wouldn’t expect to be eating a chunk of meat with anyway. Choose from pancakes, topped sourdough toasts  – the smokey chickpeas on toast served with fresh salsa is a great shout – homemade granola, or soups and sandwiches for the lunch crowd.

The halloumi club sandwich is a messy but delicious tiered construction, and proof if anyone still needed it that being veggie doesn’t need to mean eating delicate salads all year round. The coffee really is worth a mention too, with the baristas showing some real sleight of hand when it comes to non-dairy milks – regular milk is also available – and the oak milk latte is better than you would ever imagine it could be.

Every year, The Skinny holds a Food and Drink Survey, where we give you the opportunity to vote for the best restaurants, pubs and cafes in town. MalaCarne cleaned up in our 2019 Food and Drink Survey, earning spots in three categories in Glasgow: Best Vegetarian/Vegan, Best Cafe/Coffee ShopBest Breakfast and Best Lunch/Dinner.
