EAST Coffee Company

It’s with mixed feelings that we invite people from other parts of the city to EAST Coffee Company, a small but perfectly formed coffee shop in the heart of Dennistoun. EAST opened earlier in the year and quickly weathered its first storm, quite literally. When the Beast from the East closed doors across the country, EAST remained resolutely open, winning the hearts of off-work locals.

Occupying a small spot on Duke Street, the refurb process looks to have been a fun one – a sort of high stakes pass the parcel with layers of wallpaper and paint being pulled back to eventually reveal strips of vivid flock wallpaper from the 1800s. What remains is a mix of the colourful paper, brickwork and painted white plaster, with mismatched wooden tables and plants completing the picture.

Coffee is locally roasted by the Good Coffee Cartel and is seriously good stuff – these guys just know what they’re doing. It would be impossible to make a bad choice from their short but assured menu of brunchy items, which include eggs, pancakes and bagels, all whipped up in the open kitchen. EAST is not just the best coffee spot in the East End but probably one of the best in Glasgow. It is truly a secret worth keeping.
