In an area of town that prides itself on a high concentration of old-man’s pubs, The Allison Arms does well to stand out. Based on Pollokshaws Road, the pub has been open since 1884, having only closed its doors for nine months in 1920, thanks to a locally driven prohibition campaign.
The selection of German cask and craft ales is matched only by its selection of single malts, and the U-shaped bar makes for a cracking atmosphere, well suited for anyone looking to have some banter with the old-timers. A great local and good for anyone looking for a cheap pre/post-show refreshment when visiting Tramway.
It's also a pretty handy option for dog-owners looking to wind down with a pint, as they're totally cool with whatever dog-shaped creature its patrons might choose to bring, offering up treats and water for the furrier of its clientelle.
Pop down on a Saturday for karaoke or a Thursday for a shot at their notoriously tricky pub quiz – but maybe show up earlyish to grab a seat because it gets pretty darn busy.
The Skinny's readers named The Allison Arms as one of their Favourite Pubs & Bars in our annual 2018 Food and Drink Survey.
