Ask any Southside player worth his salt who does the best pizzas in Glasgow, and they will almost certainly tell you Shahed’s. The Strathbungo takeaway has gained cult status south of the Clyde, with a further city centre glam-café on Union Street furthering that influence. This isn’t a difficult one – the pizzas are huge, made fresh in store, and flavored with simple and bold ingredients. Spicy Lamb stands out, but really anything with the chilli sauce on it is a surefire winner. They even stock Rubicon juice to wash it down with, thus completing the Pollokshields experience.

This aside, Shahed’s is primarily a tandoori and curry takeaway, something which it does not shy away from in its menu, which features a huge selection of tandoori dishes. Having been on the go since 1974, they’re pretty good at it too, offering generous portions with notably sweeter, more flavouresome overtones than you normally find. Everything you need in a takeaway, really – just don’t feel you have to finish the whole thing.
