Open Eye Gallery is an independent not-for-profit photography gallery in Liverpool. You'll find it at Mann Island on Liverpool's beautiful regenerated waterfront, just nextdoor to the Museum of Liverpool. Since its opening in 1977 it's been one of the UK's leading photography spaces and it's still at the heart of Liverpool's cultural life.
It's the only art gallery of its kind in the North West of England and showcases both established and emerging artists from the national and international art scene. Strikingly laid out over two floors, it has a fascinating archive of photographs from the 1930s to the present day as well as an extensive collection of contemporary photography. Exhibitions change four times a year so make sure you double check exhibitions dates before your visit, just in case a changeover is taking place.
Entry is free to make the gallery accessible to everyone and it's one of many other free attractions in Liverpool. If you like the Open Eye Gallery, make sure you check out Tate Liverpool (another art gallery in Liverpoool) or the Merseyside Maritime Museum too.
Getting here is really easy from any of Liverpool's main stations and if you're coming by car, you'll find a huge car park at Liverpool One (Q Park) and another large car park nextdoor to the Echo Arena (Waterfront Car Park). [Laura Maclean]
