Leeds City Museum opened in 2008 following the restoration of the historic Leeds Institute building. Across floor floors, it offers a range of interesting permanent and temporary exhibits covering archaeology, geology, natural science and contemporary collections, along with educational and entertainment events.
The industrial side of Leeds and Yorkshire is evident in Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills, situated in what was once the world’s largest woollen mill, and in the Thwaite Mills Watermill Museum, which dates from the 1820s.
Those with an interest in medicine and medical history will enjoy the Thackray Medical Museum, while the Royal Armouries Museum is the UK’s national centre for arms, armour and artillery, housing more than 70,000 examples from the past to the present day.
