Situated amid Hyndland’s leafy sprawl is Cottiers Theatre, a gorgeous converted church that houses a bar, restaurant and a theatre. After a five-year hiatus, the theatre re-opened in 2011 and has been regarded as a gem of a venue ever since.

The building itself is honest and splendid, with a generous smattering of candles and fairy lights to add to its charm. There's also an open fire for wintery nights, and the large outdoor seating area in combination with the lush green surroundings makes for extremely pleasant summertime boozing. The restaurant and bar, previously known for its South American inspired dishes, now favours fresh, Scottish dishes – so expect a range of seafood and beef dishes originating not too far from home.

A wide variety of performances can be staged before Cottier's atmospheric backdrop of glorious stained glass; from music concerts to brooding drama, stand-up comedy and even corporate events. One glance at the magnificent interior also informs that Cottiers is an ideal occasional venue, suitable for dramatic and glamorous weddings to boot.
