Housed within the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Saramago cafe is a relaxed and friendly place to pass the time, with an eclectic crowd from parents and kids, to art students and business folk all flocking to the space. The availability of teas, coffees and a sumptuous food menu means its appeal is broad with many tasty options to sample, including small plates (roast pepper houmous served with homemade flatbread, anyone?), soup and sandwich combos, salads, and larger meals such as haggis fritters served with hand-cut chips and mushy peas. They also bake their own bread every morning using the finest organic flour, which is just the kind of attention to detail that sets them apart.

Saramago also stock a range of beers, ciders, wines and juices at purse-friendly prices, bolstered by the presence of a great outdoor terrace right in the heart of the city centre. Saramago is definitely worthy of repeated visits - how else are you going to work your way through their Sunday afternoon Tapas menu?
