Bang in the middle of Glasgow’s infamous Sauchiehall Street, Firewater is a surprisingly large, underground bar-meets-club venue that promises ‘real music and hard liquor’. The latter is certainly available, alongside beer and bargain price cocktail pitchers – and the venue does also occasionally host live music.

The bar itself has undergone a chic refurb, all sleek, dark, candle lit decor that attracts a mixed crowd who contribute to its excitable, bustling atmosphere, matched only in volume by a loud, one-size-fits-all indie/rock playlist – potentially useful for appeasing groups of friends with wildly varying music tastes.

There's also a wee dancefloor if you can peel yourself from the cofy leather sofas, but you're more likely to find this venue suited to exchanging patter over a pitcher rather than throwing shapes and whatnot. Firewater's not particularly striking, but perhaps that's part of its charm. Sort of like the kebab of Glasgow bars – it's always there to fall back on at the end of a night, you know what you're getting, and it's best experienced when intoxicated.
