Glasgow’s Necropolis is nestled in the heart of the city, just a stone’s throw from the Cathedral. Follow the winding paths for breath-taking, panoramic views of the city below, with the scent (or stench?) of hops from the Tennent’s brewery opposite filling your nostrils.

The Necropolis is designed after the Pere La Chaise Cemetery in Paris, and is the final resting place of some 50,000 people. Tombstones of many notable Scots can be found here – the most prominent being the dominating column for John Knox, with his Bible in hand, looming over the city. This open air museum is an adventureland for Goths, photographers and the curious alike – although it’s probably best avoided at night.
