You probably won’t guess that 256 is a bar and restaurant at first glance — it’s inside an old church hall. This spacious Fallowfield venue serves food by day and hosts partygoers by night with DJs spinning house, hip hop and indie every evening. Behind the bar you’ll find cheap cocktails and cask ales at student friendly prices, and on the food menu you’ll be able to choose from a rather extensive burger menu (who knew there were so many varieties?), sandwiches, sharing plates, pizza style flatbreads and plenty of other pub grub. At night stay out late for one of their regular club nights, including Made In Manchester on Tuesdays, celebrating the city’s musical heritage, and 256 Presents on Fridays, which sees big names taking to the decks. Previous DJ sets have come from the likes of The Cribs, Hot Chip and Josef K. Live bands and comedians have also been known to perform at 256, and on Sundays they host the Big Fat Student Quiz for you brainboxes. [Charlotte Davies]
