Lucky 7 Canteen is located on Bath Street next to its sister venue, nightclub Flat 0/1. It doesn’t look like your typical canteen, with peeling floral wallpaper and a vinyl collection behind the bar, but the wooden banquet table running the length of the room at least gets people sitting together. Offering restaurant quality food at canteen prices – just £7.77 for a dinner main and £1.50 for sides – dishes include nostalgic foods from school dinners-style mac and cheese, to fish and chips, and apple crumble with custard, with attention given to fresh ingredients and local produce. The bar serves a small but well chosen selection of spirits and draught and there’s always a good quality foreign bottled beer sold cheap as 'beer of the week'. Open until 3am at the weekends, it’s a popular late night haunt with those wishing to pub-it rather than club-it into the small hours.
