If big, bold flavours and sunny vibes are your thing then get yourself to Edinburgh's Tollcross pronto, where you''ll find Trenchtown Caribbean Social Club.
Opening in the summer of 2017, Trenchtown promises authentic Caribbean food, rum-infused cocktails and enough 'riddims' and 'tings' to make you forget all about the bleak Scottish weather outside.
The menu is big and punchy. You can grab yourself an array of smaller, sharing plates, ranging from the classic Trenchtown Platter rib 'n' wings combo, to Fiery Fried Squid and Pepper Roti, or move straight on to the big guns – the Jerk Chicken, the Goat Curry or a hedonistic Pit Grilled Burger, served with 'slaw and spicy fries or greens.
All sounding a bit carnivorous? Fear not veggie brethren, there are plenty of colourful, meat-free options to tuck into too, with the Trini Watermelon Chow and Supa Green Salad coming pretty high up on our list of dishes to try. Wash these down with a fruity daiquiri or an ice-cold imported lager, soak up the reggae tunes and find yourself transported to a very happy place.
Don't just take our word for it though; within a year of being open, Trenchtown had earned some serious street cred with The Skinny's readers, and if there's one thing our readers know, it's top nosh. The restaurant climbed the ranks in our 2018 Food & Drink Survey and bagged itself a coveted spot in both the Best Newcomer and Best Restaurant categories.
