McSorley's

Ah, the classic Irish bar. Every city needs one, and Edinburgh is no exception. Long-term capital residents might remember this bar as Malones. It may have had a fresh lick of paint and a snazzy rebrand, but little has changed at its core, with its 'Irish Heart, Scottish Soul' identity shining through.

Situated on Forrest Road, this colossal sports bar has long been a favourite with the nearby student population for its reasonably-priced pints, hearty scran and playing its part in sponsoring many of the university's sporting teams.  Naturally, it also draws in the crowds on St Paddy's Day and match days, so it's not uncommon to see swarms of colourfully-clad punters carrying the party out into the street. They're a friendly bunch though, and if one thing can be guaranteed from a night at McSorley's, it's a barrel load of craic.

Food is just as you'd expect from a cracking Irish pub, with burgers, nachos and belly-warming bowls of stew all coming high up on the agenda. There's live music every night too and regular comedy nights to look forward to, as well as a booming presence throughout the Fringe. McSorley's may have a new identity, but they're fast making a name for themselves on Edinburgh's pub scene.
