Based in the heart of Bury, the Met Theatre is an arts centre supporting the local creative community and showcasing talent from further afield. Within its two theatre spaces, Bury Met Theatre has held regular live music, stand up comedy, musicals and drama since it opened in the 1850s. The main theatre is an old Victorian hall, with retractable tiered seating for either standing or seated events. Bury Met also holds creative classes and workshops for people of all ages, whether their interests lie in dance, drama or music. A youth theatre group regularly practices and performs here, providing young budding talent with creative opportunities. The 165 year old building also holds a bar and restaurant for a pre-event meal or interval drinks. The team behind Bury Met also own the Edwin Street Recording Studio, where the likes of Dutch Uncles and The Slow Readers Club have previously worked. As well as recording space, the studio offers courses in music production, sound recording and training with the latest music software. [Charlotte Davies]
