In 2012 a gap in the market was filled — when the owner of Popup Bikes realised there were plenty of car parks in Manchester, but not many areas to safely leave bikes, he launched an area for indoor bike parking and cycle maintenance. The indoor bike parking space can house 100 bikes, 12 hours a day, six days a week, and parking hire is incredibly fairly priced — get an hour’s parking for 50p, or free if you buy a coffee. Popup Bikes aims to be ethical and fair to customers and the businesses they work with — the coffee shop serves locally sourced coffee, as well as cakes and sandwiches for hungry cyclists, and the bike repair shop (which usually offers a same day repair service) uses cycle components sourced from Worsley and Prestwich. The company also offer a bike fit service, making sure your bike is the right one for you, as well as running a bike jumble sale on the first Saturday of every month, selling absolutely anything related to bikes and cycling.
