The King's Arms is more than your standard local. Located just a couple of minutes away from Salford Central station, the pub offers regular events and even space for creatives to work. Downstairs is a proper pub, with a beer garden, real ale from local breweries on tap, food served in the day, and Happy Hour runs from noon until 7pm every weekday with some excellent offers available. But it's upstairs that makes the award-winning pub really stand out from the crowd. Since getting new owners in 2011, it's revolutionised itself by focussing on creative and artistic entertainment with regular events including local improv theatre, stand up comedy and live music. They even have their own in house theatre company promoting locally created plays, and there are a number of studio spaces available for artists and musicians to work in. It's also become a prime location for local groups to meet, from knitting clubs to anglers, ramblers and even an anarchist group. [Charlotte Davies]
