A contemporary art gallery housed in the basement of Friends’ Meeting House — a beautiful building with a fascinating history that first opened in 1795 — OBJECT / A (previously known as Untitled Gallery) works with new and established artists to display their work as well as commissioning exclusive art. It also participates in art fairs in Manchester and London as well as collaborating with other galleries and organisations to bring regional art to the gallery. Running one major exhibition at a time, the gallery provides space for all different mediums of art, from photography, to installations, to paintings and showcases a diverse range of themes with previous exhibitions by the likes of Deb Covell, Tina Hage and Tom Hackney. The gallery also represents a number of resident artists including Rick Copsey, Tom Ireland and Jo McGonigal, and features some of their work permanently alongside the rotating exhibitions. OBJECT / A is only open Thursday until Saturday, but appointments can be made for private viewings. [Charlotte Davies]
