Royal Court Theatre is one of the oldest and most iconic theatres in Liverpool and prides itself on offering a thoroughly Liverpudlian theatre experience.
There are eight long-running shows a year (mostly comedies and musicals) and most of the shows have a Liverpool theme as well as a cast and crew local to the city. The theatre's interiors have a nautical theme to reflect the city's seafaring past and visitors can spend time enjoying their surroundings with drinks or a meal before the show.
While the circle and balcony have a traditional style of seating, the stalls have been refitted in a cabaret style so that you can dine at your table before the show. A meal ticket costs £10 extra and food is cooked fresh when you arrive. The tables are cleared in time for the curtain to rise and if you like you can even order a dessert to be brought to your table during the interval!
The Court, as it's affectionately known, has a long history of theatre in Liverpool and dates all the way back to the 12th century. However, the theatre as we know it was only built in 1938 after being destroyed by a fire in 1933. Over the years many a famous face has graced its stage and Dame Judi Dench made her professional stage debut here in 1957. No doubt the Court will play a part in Liverpool's theatrical history for many more years to come too.
