Nestled amongst the madness of Slater Street, on the site of Liverpool's former Wonder Bar (ehh, it was funny in the 90s), this restaurant, bar and live music venue offers an alternative vibe with an American diner-inspired menu. Highlights includes the build-your-own burger, mac'n'cheese and the American Swiss Sandwich. The interior has a (you guessed it) nautical, retrostyle with a spacious bar area scattered with comfy leather sofas where you can relax with a beer and a board game.
The underground gig venue, The Hold, is one of Liverpool’s top spots for catching a DJ or band due to its intimate size and attractive, stripped-back aesthetic, complete with exposed brick walls, barely changed since a former lifetime as punk/metal haven Guinan's (not that you'll see too much of that baggy-trousered lark here). Johnny Bongo’s Monday night pub quiz is one of the wackiest quiz nights going, and burgers are two-for-one on a Tuesday. The crowd is a genuine mixed bag, due to the varied and eclectic music programming; expect to hear anything from hip-hop, funk and soul to UK garage, grime and old school house.
