About a mile north of Glasgow City centre runs Saracen Street, where you’ll find SeeWoo, the biggest supermarket in Scotland, home to an unrivalled range of Asian foods and specialities. The supermarket itself is worth a visit, not least for the live eels and other beasties.

The 60,000 square foot site also comfortably houses the largest restaurant in Scotland, SeeWoo Restaurant, capable of seating 500 people. The sheer size and scale of the operation is daunting – the single, cavernous dining chamber somehow pulls off what can only be described as a kind of community-hall chic, replete with neutral colours that still manage to clash, and a slightly pathetic looking performance stage down the front.

However these things are of little concern. In the past, SeeWoo has been referred to as the best Chinese in Scotland, and regardless of your take on this, there’s no denying its authenticity. There’s plenty on offer across the Peking/Catonese-based menu, but the real stars of the show are the dim sum dumplings, available in a range of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Other options to look out for include the soft shell crab appetisers, and the Chinese three roasts main course. All in all, a delicious, bewildering experience.
