500 Great Western Road | Glasgow G12 8EN
For a long time it is seemed like Viper was an indestructible force. The popular student nightclub on Great Western Road had the grit to survive some pretty testing years politically, but could do little to fight back against the combined might of 4am licenses in the city centre and the rise of Uber.
The space is open again after a six month hiatus, under new management and with a shiny new caps lock name, 500 GWR. The team behind the new project are determined to bring a slice of the proper club scene to the West End. Having successfully poached the Funktion-One soundsystem formerly installed at the legendary Arches and booked a solid line-up of local DJs in the coming months, things are looking promising for the newly-opened club.
The club's strict 'no cameras' policy is a pretty solid change of pace from the way things were previously, where selfies on the dancefloor were the order of the day. It seems like things are looking up for nightlife in the West.
