St Margaret's House

From the outside St Margaret’s House looks rather drab. With its boxy architecture, you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd stumbled upon some sort of unbecoming office block.

But there's a different story on the inside St Margaret’s House. The venue is actually home to Art's Complex, a charitable organisation which aims to redress the imbalance between the number of artists working in Edinburgh and the affordable workspace that is available to them. It was a lengthy process between the years of 2008 and 2010 to secure leases for the various floors of the vacant St Margaret's Office block, but seems to have been a pretty worthwhile effort.

Today, the space aims to inspire creativity in the local community through exhibitions, educational events and workshops, and through the it also week hosts a varying schedule of activities such as yoga, pilates and theatre. And of course there’s a range of studio and gallery spaces of all different sizes to hire for artists looking to exhibit their work in and around the city.
