Amidst the independent shops of Oldham Street is the Central Methodist Hall, a fully functioning methodist church and occasional event space. The sizeable hall with tiered seating above is regularly used for conferences as well as live music, with The Kills, Gruff Rhys and Alabama Shakes all appearing there in recent years, while it's also been used as part of Dot To Dot Festival. The centre is home to a number of Manchester based organisations, including a Girl Guides group and The People’s Assembly. Most of the rooms in Central Methodist Hall are available to hire for meetings, conferences and other private events, and catering is available for these events. Nexus Art Cafe also resides in the methodist hall’s basement, with an ever-changing display of work by local artists, and a large menu of homemade, organic food. The methodist centre itself is open on Tuesdays and Sundays, and disabled access is available throughout the building. [Charlotte Davies]
