Red Door is a late night cocktail bar and live music space on Berry Street. Previously The Metropolitan (or The Met, as it was more affectionately known by its frequenters), which sadly closed its doors for the last time in 2012, this beautiful building lay dormant until the Living Ventures team restored what was once a slightly shabby – albeit beloved – venue into one of the city's most favoured cocktail spots.
There’s a myriad of cocktails for you to whet your whistle with, such as the irresistable Bakewell Sour, refreshing Basil Grande or all your favourite classic mixes for those who aren't into experimenting with their poisions. And if cocktails aren't your thing, the spirit list is extensive enough to cater to the most accomplished of palates.
Its prime location on Berry street – next door to TriBeCa and close to the likes of Neon Jamon, Chamber 36 and Roja – makes it the perfect place for an after-dinner drink, and it's just close enough to the chaos of Seel Street to provide you with a worthy starting point for a night on the tiles.
It gets chocka-block of a weekend, at which time those inconveniently placed pillars can be irksome, but find yourself a decent spot by the window or to the rear of the place and you're in for a cracking few hours of dancing and cocktail drinking. If it does get too busy in the main room, head upstairs and cool down on the rooftop terrace; it's probably our favourite thing about the place. It's armed with outdoor heaters, so don't be put off if it's cold outside. If you're quick enough you can grab a seat on one of the couches and something from the barbecue (in summer months), and you'll escape the hustle and buslte of the manic downstairs bar.
Keep your eye out on its Facebook page for various events such as Aperol Spritz Pop-Up Bar, gin tasting events and more. Or head over on a Sunday from 5pm for some crackin' live music, and if you can wait until 9pm there's a DJ who'll help you end your week with a bang. And don't forget about Happy Hour (7-9pm on Monday to Thursday and 5-7pm Friday to Sunday), where you'll get classic cocktails such as the Pornstar Martini, Frozen Daiquirs and Pina Coladas for just a fiver. Don't leave without having a go in the photo booth, either – it's right by the door and will provide you with a crucial piece of the puzzle when you're trying to remember how you got home last night.
