48 Berry Street | Liverpool L1 4JQ
Hidden away on Berry Street where only those in the know will find it, Berry & Rye is a prohibition era themed bar specialising in whiskey, blues, jazz and gin. The lengths that this bar goes to to stick to the prohibition theme are impressive, with drinks menus hidden away in bibles and a subdued outer appearance, meaning it's almost impossible to find — most people only find out about it through word of mouth.
To find Berry & Rye, you knock on an anonymous door of a blacked out shop front and then a doorman ushers you inside if there's room. (Note: Berry & Rye controls the number of people coming in — making sure it's always comfortably full without bursting at the seams.)
Dim lights, an extensive whiskey collection and candles flickering in old wine bottles give this place an aged feel, just as if you've stepped right back in time into a 1930s Chicago speakeasy. Drinks are brought to your table via waiter service and depending on what night you visit, you can sip your gin or whiskey cocktail while listening to the smooth sounds of Berry & Rye's resident pianist.
Berry & Rye was named one of the best date places in the North West in The Skinny Food and Drink Survey 2015. Check out the other winners as voted for by The Skinny readers, and take a look at our full-length review of Berry & Rye.
