The Museum of Liverpool is a museum dedicated to Liverpool's fascinating history, and opened in 2011 on the city's beautiful waterfront. It's one of the many free museums in Liverpool and each exhibition tells part of the city's story — both past and present. Visitors can explore how Liverpool's port, people, creativity and sporting success have shaped the city we know and love today. The exhibits change every few months so it's well worth keeping an eye out on what's new (do this by keeping an eye on our listings). The museum's Wondrous Place gallery also offers free film screenings throughout the day.

You'll find the Museum of Liverpool in a stunning building down by the Albert Dock (which has become an iconic part of the city skyline). It takes the place of the former Museum of Liverpool Life and you should definitely make sure you take in the impressive views of the waterfront while you're down there. If you enjoy your visit to the Museum of Liverpool, make sure you also check out the Merseyside Maritime Museum and Tate Liverpool, which are also located at the Albert Dock.

Entry is free. [Laura Maclean]
