Many years ago, there was a time when coffee shops weren’t on every street in the country. What’s more, rather than receiving a hot beverage made from espresso shots and boiled water, you’d get a strange, murky, thin brown liquid with a topping of questionable ‘milk’ foam. We know! Crazy! However, within Leeds, Opposite Cafe was perhaps the first establishment to offer students an authentic coffee experience.
As a firm fixture of Blenheim Terrace, the folk of Opposite take their coffee seriously, providing a menu with a range of beans and styles to send any Starbucks or Costa packing. They also serve up homemade fresh food in their cafe, which has large indoor and outdoor seating areas, and walls that are adorned with local art. Those looking for their coffee fix should set their sights here. If you’re in the city centre and feel the pangs of caffeine calling, rest assured that Opposite also run a second store inside the plush Victorian quarter. [Edy Hurst]
