Leeds is a city with a massive collection of history and historic buildings. As a large populated area since as far back as 1086, it’s no surprise there’s plenty of the past to be seen. And, as one may expect of Yorkshire, often this is seen through their pubs. A British and northern institution, for a living piece of history, every part of Whitelocks tells a story.
In 2015 the structure itself will be 300 years old, and during that time the Grade II building has welcomed guests such as Prince George and poet John Betjeman. Towards the end of the late 19th century and early 20th, it quickly established itself as a hub for modern poets, including a visit from T.S. Eliot.
That’s not to say that Whitelocks is set in the past. With its lovingly restored interior, it’s one of the best pubs in Leeds, providing a great range of traditional ales and pub food to visitors and residents alike. For an authentic experience of Leeds and a top grade pub, Whitelocks is a must visit. [Edy Hurst]
