As lovely as the 18th century constructed Bramham Park country house and surrounding land undoubtedly are, for many its name is only synonymous with one thing — the northern leg of Reading and Leeds Festival.
Each August bank holiday weekend some 80,000 revellers make their way out to the Lane-Fox family-owned estate to drink their weight in cheap lager and do all the sort of fire starting and looting you can't really get away with in the real world. Oh yes and they will also watch some of the biggest music performers of the era, with Leeds Festival having hosted pretty much everyone who's anyone in the rock music game since its inception in 1998. Guns N' Roses performed a typically delayed set there in 2010 while other guitar music behemoths to headline the three-day event include Metallica, Muse and the Foo Fighters.
When Bramham Park isn't hosting the A level results party year however, it opens its grounds and gardens for public visitation all year round, as long as you book by appointment — entrance is typically less than a fiver. The park also hosts large scale events including fun runs and various horse cross-country competitions. [William Gunn]
