A minute away from Glasgow's Queens Park is the district of Govanhill, which for many years benefitted from a beautifully-designed Victorian swimming baths, complete with a steamie. The baths themselves were shut down before the turn of the millennium, but a campaign to preserve the building and its interiors was successful. Since then the baths have hosted a variety of events and performances, including exhibitions, gigs, and thoroughly innovative theatre that takes full advantage of the spaces unique features.
Currently a three-phase project is underway to restore the baths to their original glory, the ultimate intention being to re-fill and re-open the swimming pool. Until then, the whole of Glasgow benefits from this unique performance space and their ad-hoc programme of events.
