It goes without saying that the Barras is many different things to many different people – a stomping ground for chancers, antique-hunters and banter-enthusiasts alike. The jet-black, glass-roofed building standing tall amid the chaos is the Barras Art and Design.
Effectively serving as a hub for the wider market, the venue aims to unite the eclectic mixture that populate the Barras, with its airy main hall serving as a retail outlet on weekends, and a venue during the week, with previous events including various gigs and art exhibitions.
As an events venue it can serve all sorts of functions, ranging from drama lessons (and the fruits of such), games and football nights, talks and all manner of fashion and gallery shows.
It's also worth a mention that the café serves up probably the tastiest (and safest) Scottish breakfast around.
Those tired of same-old fashion and design will be pleased to learn that the centre houses a number of permanent retail outlets, including Obscure Couture – who offer a range of street-wear, jewellery, and couture, featuring unique pieces from young and up-and-coming designers.
