Hike up Arthur's Seat and you're in for a treat – 360 degree views of Edinburgh below. A dormant volcano, Arthur's Seat sits 251m above sea level, within the green and peaceful Holyrood Park. Just a short stroll from the Royal Mile, it's the perfect way to blow off the cobwebs from the night before, and you won't be alone as the route up the hill is always crowded with tourists, walkers, dogs and even the odd trail runner. You'll be able to reach the top in under an hour, whichever route you choose, and there's plenty to see on the way up including Iron Age hill forts and of course, those glorious views over the city. Don't forget your camera!

Oh – and why's it called Arthur's Seat? There are numerous rumours floating about, but one of the most popular is that it was the location of Camelot, the famous Fort of King Arthur. So there you go.
