Don't visit Joe Cool if you're a magpie teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. Otherwise, this neon-fronted jewellery and accessories boutique directly behind the statue of Greyfriar's Bobby is a must-visit if you're in Edinburgh. The interior is sectioned by colour-coordinated accoutrements, but if you're prone to over-excitability, then it's likely the layout won't even register as you zip between jewellery displays.
Joe's stocks some recogniseable niche brands (mostly bags, umbrellas and purses) but on the whole, its jewellery and accessories range is designed and produced independently, lending the range a quirky individuality. Also, it's considerably less pricey than any high-street-chain equivalent and at least one person is guaranteed to gaze wistfully at that slightly mad sapphire-encrusted peacock pendant you bought on a whim.
Guiltless, envy-inducing shopping at bargain prices? Yes please.
