Hawksmoor Edinburgh

If Hawksmoor, the latest London transplant to hit the fringes around Edinburgh's St Andrew Square, can be summed up in two words, those would be 'opulence' and 'meat'.

The steakhouse is much-loved down south for its outlandish and delicious cuts and things are no different north of the border. The swish factor comes from the venue's location in the new Edinburgh Grand hotel development, all old wood panels and shiny, shiny windows.

Carnivores will not be disappointed with the hunks of meat on display; starters range from potted beef and bacon with Yorkshires and nae-qualms bone marrow with onions, while mains centre upon Hebridean lamb T-bones, half Gartmorn chicken and a gut-busting double cheeseburger. Fish features prominently on the menu too, so whether you're looking for a drop of langoustine scampi or some charcoal-grilled monkfish, these guys'll have you falling hook, line and sinker. 

Really though, it's all about the steaks. Hawksmoor believe firmly in the philosophy that good steaks come from happy cattle. To that end, they work closely with farmers across the UK to ensure that their meat comes from ethically-treated, grass-fed coos. With such lovingly-sourced ingredients comes carefully-honed prep skills. If it's Chateaubriand or Porterhouse you're after, or if you're puzzling over the eternal fillet/sirloin debate, the staff are on hand to see you through. Veggies might find themselves a little outnumbered, but that's not to say they'll go hungry; with creations like artichoke salad to start and spice-roasted carrots to tuck into, there's sure to be a little something for everyone.

With its swanky interior, indulgent meals and classic cocktails, Hawksmoor might not be the cheapest option in town, but it's certainly looking like an all-round gem if you're looking to treat yourself.
