The Sheep Heid Inn has been watering patrons since 1360 – that’s 200 years before Shakespeare was even invented! Historically, it was a favourite of poets and monarchs, now it’s a cosy establishment for all to enjoy, with a good selections of ales and top class pub grub on offer too. There’s even a skittle alley out back – Scotland’s oldest surviving one at that.
This stalwart of the 'just great pubs' club is a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike. In fact, getting a table here for Sunday lunch can be somewhat of a challenge and it's best to book if you don't fancy being disappointed. You never know who you might end up dining beside. Rumour has it that the Queen herself has been known to pop in from time to time.
As if the royal seal of approval wasn't enough, our readers have been showing the feels for the Sheep Heid for quite some time, and recently voted it one of the Best Sunday Lunch spots in our 2018 Food & Drink Survey.
