When you come to think of it, there isn't really a performance venue more suited to Edinburgh Festival Fringe than The Famous Spiegeltent. A spiegeltent is a performance tend made from wood, mirrors, leaded glass and brocade, and this one was created in the 1920s by craftsmen Oscar Mols Dom and Loius Goor. For a 95 year old tent (at time of writing), this gem has got around too, traveling all over the UK and the globe from Montreal to Melbourne. It finishes its summers in Edinburgh every august, and proudly showcases all manner of glitz and glory.
Although its bohemian vibes have been slightly diluted by the inevitable sight of punters wandering round wearing neon sunglasses they got free from Aperol (or some other sponsor) and drinks are a little on the pricey side, you'll forget it all when you're reclining in a deckchair on the terrace, wondering how you were lucky enough to be treated to a bit of sun on your day off spent listening to a beautiful man playing beautiful guitar. Lush!
