Daylight Robbery

There's something distinctly loveable about those little hidden gem bars.  You know the type.  The ones you could quite easily pass every day for years without noticing until someone lets you in on the secret and you discover what you've been missing all along.

Take Daylight Robbery, in Edinburgh's city centre, as an example.  Nestled beneath the Georgian townhouses on Dublin Street, this basement bar may be hard to spot but it's also one of those rare beauties which manages to be a little bit of something for everybody.  By day, it's a diner, with vivid yellow tables bouncing colour across the room; by night, it's a trendy spot to enjoy a tipple or two, tucked away from the noise and hustle of the city above, and with a gentle ambience created by the subdued lighting.

There's a delightfully creative menu to choose from, with light bites on offer as well as Americana-inspired meals ranging from classic 'dogs and burgers  to Mexican-style fish and chips, burritos and even the odd margarita chili thrown in for good measure.  Veggies and vegans will also be happy to hear that there's a nicely thought-out range of snacks on offer, though the jeera aloo tatties with maple syrup combination might raise an eyebrow or two.  

Of course the food menu would not be complete without some decent beverages to compliment the meal; thankfully there's a nice range of craft beers on tap, and a tempting array of cocktails to choose from, should you be in need of a swally or two.  

The bar staff are super friendly and happy to accomodate families with children, as well as group bookings.  There's even a speakeasy themed bar below, the 'Downstairs Robbery', which can be hired out if you fancy bringing the whole brood along.  Which you probably will, because Daylight Robbery is one labyrinth worth exploring.
