New Town Community Cinema

During Doors Open Day 2014, Scottish Historic Buildings Trust asked the residents of Edinburgh's Broughton area ‘what do you think the Glasite Meeting House on Barony Street should become?’. A large majority of the residents suggested ‘how about a cinema?’, and so the rest, as they say, is history! Barony Street is now home to New Town Community Cinema, a truly unique pop-up community venture which makes wonderful use of the beautiful 200 seater meeting hall in the Glasite Meeting House. Formerly a place of worship as the meeting hall of the Glasite religious sect, the Glasite Meeting House is an A-listed building that is fully equipped with pews and a pulpit – not to mention an ornate cupola in the ceiling – ready to show up to three films a day.
